Women's
Group for Health and Well-being
The Women’s Group for Health and
Well-being has been in existence since 1996. The group was started by
Leslie Zehr and her Reiki Master Betty Brody. Being practitioners, they
were both interested in meeting other woman like themselves in
Cairo. The group started with the
idea of connecting and educating women about the healing arts. There are many alternative
health care practitioners in Cairo but finding them is not
always easy. Most
information is spread by personal contact or word of mouth. The idea was to bring like
minded women together for social and professional
reasons.
There are monthly meetings, on the full
moon. The meetings began as a
small group meeting in Leslie’s living room and have expanded to a
network of over 300 women.
The meetings consist of a meditation/visualization and
discussion of the current trends. In the beginning local
practitioners were given the opportunity to introduce them selves to
the community. It also
provides the opportunity for members to learn more about various
therapies or services available in the
area
As well as monthly meetings, the group
sponsors many activities such as workshops
and lectures taught by local and international instructors. Because the group is quite
large we have been able to bring instructors from abroad to teach
certification courses to local participants. Bringing instructors to
Egypt gives those who are
permanent residence the opportunity to expand our learning without
the expense of travelling abroad.
Cairo, being a very transient place,
having a group like this give women the chance to meet other women
in a very welcoming environment, one of healing. Most of the
women from the group remain in contact through our email list even
after moving on from Cairo creating a real world wide web of
women.
Grandmother
Spider
Grandmother Spider is named
after the Native American Spider totem. The Spider as a ‘Power
Animal’ weaves the web of life. She links the past to the
future, represents infinity and the Wheel of Fortune. Through her web we are all
joined, connected. The
web has no boundaries.
The purpose of this group is
to help those individuals on a spiritual path, with support and
information. The Web
connects each of us through our personal experiences. Together we can use all the
tools collectively at our disposal.
Together we are Weaving the
Web.
