The most common way to use aromatherapy is in skin care products and therapeutic blends. Essential oils are generally safe as long as we follow a few guidelines:

  • Essential oils should NOT be applied directly to the skin
  • Never use essential oils in the eye area
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • Not all essential oils are safe for pregnant women (check first)

Basil Ocimum basilicum
Excellent oil for concentration. Can be used for mental fatigue, mental strain and depression. Basil blends well with lavender and geranium.

Clary Sage Salvia sclarea
The 'woman's oil'. Works on Premenstrual tension and anemia. It has a grassy fragrance. Blends well with rose, citrus oils, geranium and jasmine.

Geranium Pelargonium graveolens
A floral scent. Good for toning and balancing. Helps relieve anxiety and depression. Blends well with basil, citrus oils and cypress.

Jasmine Jasminum grandiflorum
Uplifting oil. Works as an aphrodisiac and antidepressant. Excellent for use during childbirth. Revitalizing oil, increases confidence. Blends well with orange, neroli, clary sage, coriander and chamomile

Lavender Lavandula officinalis
Balancing oil. Relaxes when under stress, uplifting when down. Excellent for burns and wound healing. Blends well with citrus oils, clary sage and rosemary.

Lemon Citrus limonum
Good oil for detoxification. It is stimulating and refreshing. Good for cleaning a room. Blends well with cypress, citrus, juniper and rosemary

Lemongrass Cymbopogon citratus
Good for any type of decongesting and detoxifying. Blends well with geranium, jasmine, lavender

Mandarin Citrus reticulata
Relaxing and sedative oil. Good for children and bringing out the 'inner child'. Blends well with other citrus oils, neroli and jasmine.

Marjoram Origanum majorana
Excellent for relaxation.  Relieves anxiety and insomnia. Blends well with lavender, geranium, rosemary and orange.

Neroli Citrus aurantium
Works on the heart chakra. It is an antidepressant. Excellent for skin care.  Relieves palpitations, insomnia and anxiety. Blends well with clary sage, geranium and lavender.

Orange Citrus sinensis
Brings joy. Works well on the digestive tract for indigestion. Blends well with cedar, geranium and marjoram.

Peppermint Mentha piperita
Refreshing and deodorizing. Blends well with benzoin, cedar, cypress, lavender, mandarin, marjoram, pine and rosemary

Petitgrain Citrus aurantium
An antidepressant and antispasmodic. Relieves anger and panic. Blends well with cedar, geranium, neroli, orange and rosemary.

Rose Rosa damascena
An antidepressant, antispasmodic and aphrodisiac. Works on the heart chakra. Excellent for stress and PMT. Blends well with chamomile, clary sage, geranium, jasmine, lavender, neroli, orange and rosemary.

Rosemary Rosmarinus officinalis
A stimulant and antidepressant. Works well on headaches and gallstones. Blends well with basil, cedar, geranium, grapefruit, mandarin, and orange.
